Shooting Starlings. JESSE POLLOCK x ARCHIVE 18-20

Shooting Starlings

Archive 18-20 presents you this event.

12 September - 31 October 2019

On the occasion of the Paris Design week, the Parisian concept store Archive 18-20 presents the artist Jesse Pollock. The "Shooting Starlings" exhibition from 12 September to 31 October 2019. Jesse Pollock seems to suggest that we question the interactions and cohabitations between nature and the city, between species and humans. Jesse Pollock was born in 1993 in Kent, a county in England south-east of the capital.

After graduating from Camberwell College of Arts in London, he chose to return to his small hometown, near the coast. The artist was inspired by the rural nature of the landscape, particularly the British island of Sheppey, on which a colony of thousands of scorpions from elsewhere is located. Pollock's recurring scorpion figure became a symbol of the globalization of trade and workers' immigration. Among other things, they can be found on all the items in the exhibition: metal vases, silicone parts, etc. The artist also chose to represent starlings, country birds that are often hunted and victims of hunting. The explosive forms and onomatopoeias of the sound devices designed to keep birds away are found in the exhibition.

The present furniture, chairs and extensions, underline the artist's approach, which makes the room a point of contemplation and understanding. While Jesse Pollock's works are inspired by the realities of the agricultural world, they are far from the usual rural representations, favouring artificial and technological materials over natural elements. Jesse Pollock seems to suggest that we question the interactions and cohabitations between nature and the city, between species and humans.
